Cryptocurrency has moved well past its early-adopter phase, and event organizers are increasingly asked a simple question by their audience: "Can I pay with crypto?" For festivals, conferences, and community events with an audience that already transacts in digital currency, saying yes can mean the difference between a completed sale and an abandoned cart.

Why offer crypto as a payment option

The case for accepting crypto isn't ideological: it's practical. Some attendees, particularly in tech, gaming, and international communities, simply prefer it, and international buyers may find crypto easier than navigating currency conversion and card decline issues with a foreign bank. The broader principle holds regardless of the payment method: the more ways your audience can pay, the fewer people abandon checkout because their preferred option isn't available.

How it works in practice

On a modern ticketing platform, accepting crypto doesn't mean an organizer has to personally manage a digital wallet or track exchange rates. The platform handles the conversion and settlement, so from the organizer's side, a crypto sale looks the same as any other transaction in the dashboard: a ticket sold, a payment confirmed, funds accounted for in your reporting.

For the buyer, the experience is just another checkout option alongside card, cash, and installment payments: they select crypto, complete the transaction from their wallet, and receive their ticket exactly the way any other buyer would, including WhatsApp and email delivery.

What organizers should know

A few things are worth understanding when crypto payments for an event:

Settlement currency matters: funds land in your account as local currency, so there are no surprises around volatility. Refund policies should be spelled out clearly, since reversing a crypto transaction isn't identical to reversing a card payment. And it's worth flagging the option clearly on your event page if part of your audience is choosing your event because crypto is accepted, so make sure they know it's there before they start checkout.

Who benefits most

Crypto payment support tends to matter most for tech and gaming conferences, international events drawing attendees across borders, and community or grassroots events built around audiences already active in crypto and Web3 spaces. For the right event, it removes a real barrier to purchase.

Setting it up

Ticketopolis includes crypto as one of several built-in payment methods, alongside card, cash, and installment options, so you don't have to do anything special to start using it.

If your audience has been asking for it, there's no reason to keep leaving that sale on the table. Sign up free and add crypto as a payment option on your next event.

Starting today, every ticket sold through Ticketopolis can be delivered by WhatsApp, alongside the email delivery organizers already rely on. It's a small change on the surface, one extra delivery channel, but it solves one of the most common complaints event organizers hear from their attendees: "I never got my ticket."

The problem with email-only delivery

Email has been the default way to deliver tickets for years, and for a lot of buyers it still works fine. But it isn't the whole story. Confirmation emails land in spam folders, get buried under promotions, or simply go unread until the day of the event, if they're opened at all. For organizers, that means a share of attendees show up without their ticket in hand, creating avoidable friction at the door and putting extra pressure on check-in staff who have to look up orders manually.

Why WhatsApp

WhatsApp is where a large share of Ticketopolis's audience already spends their time: checking messages throughout the day, not just when they think to open their inbox. Delivering a ticket there means it arrives somewhere a buyer is actually likely to see it, with none of the extra steps of searching an inbox the night of an event.

How it works

There's nothing new for organizers to configure. When a buyer completes a purchase on Ticketopolis, their ticket is generated and delivered automatically by email as before, and now by WhatsApp as well, sent to the phone number provided at checkout. The ticket itself works exactly the same way whether it's opened from an email or a WhatsApp message: the same unique code, ready to be scanned at check-in.

For buyers, that means one less thing to worry about. For organizers, it means fewer "I can't find my ticket" messages in the days leading up to an event, and fewer holdups at the door from guests who genuinely never saw their confirmation.

Who benefits most

This matters for every kind of event Ticketopolis supports, but it's especially useful for community events, family-oriented gatherings, and any audience that leans on messaging apps more than email.

What's next

WhatsApp delivery is live now for every event created on Ticketopolis, at no extra cost and with no setup required: it's simply part of how tickets are delivered going forward. As always, the goal is the same one behind every feature we build: fewer obstacles between a ticket being bought and an attendee actually making it through the door.

Find it. Book it. Live it. And now, get it on WhatsApp too.

We’re often asked why we decided to build a system like Ticketopolis. What many people don’t know is that we started in 2002 as an agency that developed technology-driven marketing strategies, or, depending on how you looked at it, a software development company built on marketing principles. Our mission was simple: “Help your business grow.” We wanted to have a positive impact on the growth and development of our society.

Our event registration system, as it was called back then, was probably the third or fourth system we ever developed. The first event we supported was a conference for Tecnológico de Monterrey called “Adictos a la Publicidad” (Advertising Addicts), held in August 2003.

From there, we went on to support many more events, including numerous events organized by students and nonprofit organizations. Often, they had to work with very limited time, budgets, or resources. And yet, we saw firsthand how their hard work and dedication allowed them to create meaningful events that made a difference in their communities.

Over time, we began to see a common thread among all these events: they contributed to the growth and development of society. We witnessed how attending these kinds of events could change people’s lives. That’s when we realized that the work we were doing could be a tool for democratizing access to knowledge, making sports more accessible, bringing people closer to the arts, and much more. We realized that, from our corner of the world, we could contribute to society and help drive positive change.

That realization inspired us to make professional tools available to everyone: tools that had previously been accessible only to large companies. Tools that could make event organization easier, help activate local economies, and support the growth of communities.

Through Ticketopolis, its technology, and our experience, we could continue making a positive impact on society, this time, on a global scale.

And our work isn’t finished. Along with continuing to add new features and improvements to Ticketopolis, we have three projects in the works that are much more focused on education, all with the same goal: to democratize knowledge and help it reach more people.

Follow us and be among the first to hear about these new projects. There’s a very good chance you’ll be able to be part of them, too.
